Injuries occur when there is a misadaptation of tissues which can result from:
- Tissue overloading ( training errors )
- Intrinsic factors ( biomechanical flaws, muscular dysfunction, tissue frailty )
- Extrinsic factors ( running shoes, surface ).
The majority of running injuries are due to repetitiveness and improper shoewear.
The most common running injuries are patellofemoral syndrome (knee pain), iliiotibial band syndrome (outside knee pain), tibial stress syndrome (also known as shin splints ), Achilles tendinopathy (heel pain) and plantar fasciitis (foot pain).
